Overview:
The New York Energy Team is seeking a versatile, aggressive reporter to cover the complex and fast moving U.S. refined products market. We're looking for someone who can turn highly specialized energy news into stories for wider audiences.
Rapid changes across the world's biggest oil market have had massive implications for the U.S. economic and political landscape over the past two years, capturing front page headlines as high fuel prices shape the presidential debate, shale oil production restructures the economy, and changing trade flows and environmental rules redefine the U.S. refining patch.
This is a voracious market that demands expertise in reporting and writing across all audiences targeted by Reuters: from market-specific, price-driving alerts to analysis and investigative stories on trade flows, policy and the broader economy.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will lift the curtain on this notoriously opaque market to deliver everything from alerts on refinery outages to stories on the prime movers that drive this closely watched beat. You must also be able to connect the dots between government energy policy, risk, and the economy to write compelling long-form copy that can hold the interest of readers from energy specialists to a wider financial audience.
Desired Skills:
At least 5 years of journalism experience at a major news organization. News agency and energy trade reporting experience are a plus. Strong writing skills. Proven ability to both break news and to develop and execute initiative and longer-form stories.
