Insolvency Today is the leading independent monthly magazine for the insolvency and rescue profession, offering unique news and insight into the world of recoveries. The magazine, whilst under two years old, has grown rapidly and now requires an editor to lead the title and its growing online service – Insolvency News. The Insolvency Today brand sits alongside a successful events portfolio with its own established awards scheme and conferences.
The position requires spearheading and managing new product development and working with cross functional teams – events, marketing, production and sales to ensure the success of the brands.
Based London Bridge
Insolvency Today is part of Athene Publishing, an established publishing and events business producing leading brands in print, in person and on line in the credit, insolvency and payroll professions.
Commercial Development and Management
• Being involved in the creation and delivery of the annual budget for the insolvency business
• Responsible for the development plan of Insolvency Today/Insolvency News, including the development of digital and other services that meet the needs of readers and advertisers
• Manage the gathering and development of unique data to spearhead unique market intelligence product with the ability to analyse insolvency market at its aggregate level to enable title to move towards becoming must-have higher value subscription information for the industry it serves
• Being responsible for developing new value propositions for the insolvency market
Magazine Production
• Manage and deliver the magazine production schedule, with the production manager, ensuring agreed pagination is delivered each month and that production values of the magazine are achieved
• Send sub edited copy to production manager to deadline, and proof laid out copy
• Manage the flatplan in liaison with the head of editorial, production manager and advertising sales
• Work with the production manager with regard to selecting cover image, maintaining image stock and sourcing additional images relevant to magazine content
• Manage freelance budget for writers, subs and photographers, reporting to the head of editorial
• Proof all copy, making amendments where necessary. Ensure head of editorial and other key individuals get enough time to see proofs
• Sign off the magazine for printing to deadline with as few errors as possible
Editorial
• Write the leader each month – ensuring a memorable and relevant issue is tackled
• Secure exclusive news coverage and ensure magazine remains relevant to readership
• Maintain and update the forward features and supplements list in liaison with advertising sales and head of editorial
• Maintain and update the house style template
• Manage the editorial advisory board
• Liaise with marketing and events department when needed for advice in event planning
• Source content for www.insolevencynews.com daily and make suggestions about innovations and additions to the site
• Commission contributors, ensuring editorial balance and rotation of technical coverage to meet reader needs
• Represent the magazine at conferences and exhibitions, including introducing or chairing IT conferences
• Maintain editorial integrity and operate controls and procedures to minimise risk of libel actions
• Manage freelance editorial and sub editing staff
• Continue to develop the digital side of IT and improve online and social media engagement
Education/work experience
• Educated to degree level
• Journalism training NCTJ or equivalent
• Strong experience on business to business magazines
• Likely to be an editor on a B2B title
Experience of writing content and developing content solutions for the web also desirable
