Overall Job Purpose:

To work closely with the Editor in the overall management and production of the portfolio of publications produced by a luxury publishing house that focuses on premium London titles and contract publishing projects.

A rapidly expanding business, we are looking for a strong candidate who is looking to assume immediate responsibility and has ambition for steady career development.

This is very much an organisational, communication-reliant role which makes the candidate an important cog within the department, whose key role is to be able to deputise for the Editor and support him/her in all aspects of the role.

An appreciation and understanding of the luxury market and prior experience is essential.

Editorial Skills

• To write key features and interviews, depending on skills and requirements
• To work with the Editor in the future planning of editorial content and come up with ideas and new features
• To write to a suitably high standard: this means consistently and accurately adhering to house style guidelines, and developing to a level that requires very little subbing by the Editor. Writing should cover everything from product pages to columns, reviews, longer articles, interviews and lead features
• To edit and review the work of contributors and team members, ensuring that it is in line with company policies and ethics and to manage the accurate proofing of articles before being passed to design
• To be responsible for vital sub-editing and proofing of all pages at an early stage in the design process
Production & Design
• To manage the monthly flatplans from an editorial perspective in close partnership with the Production Manager
• To ensure/enable final page plan sign-off from both the editorial and advertising teams
• To assist in the completion of departmental administrative and reporting tasks
• To work with the Editor in present and future design evolution
• To adhere to departmental working procedures for processing incoming emails, client correspondence and advertising copy

Management

• To manage the editorial and design process, from receipt through design and timely delivery to the Editor’s final sign-off
• To liaise with the editorial team to dissemina¬te tasks, set deadlines, monitor work and workload and motivate, acting as next in command to the Editor
• To manage/support the company processes
• To be happy to manage some projects from start to finish, with guidance from the Editor or Editorial Director
• To communicate effectively with internal staff, particularly within the production, sales, accounts and editorial departments, ensuring they are kept fully informed regarding problematic ad copy supply, client requests and other issues that may affect departmental workflows and deadlines

Events, Contacts and Networking

• To develop and manage key public relations contacts
• To compile and maintain complete and accurate records regarding clients
• To be responsible for attending events in the stead of the Editor, and be able to deputise in their place
• To attend appropriate events relevant to the magazine
• To dedicate time to improving your knowledge of the local area and key local contacts, and ensure these are being continually developed

Sales & Commercial

• To attend client meetings where appropriate
• To be commercially-minded
• To see and utilise opportunities to meet and influence key marketing contacts, and then introduce them to the commercial department where appropriate
• To meet regularly with the sales team to share ideas about commercial opportunities

Overall you are expected to pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role, as an ongoing requirement
