Due to continued growth within the group, Aceville Publications Ltd are currently recruiting for a experienced Editor/Deputy Editor to provide maternity cover for women's spiritual glossy Soul & Spirit. The ideal candidate will be able demonstrate excellent writing, managerial and commercial skills and be highly organised, driven and knowledgeable about the women's consumer magazine sector, based at our head office within Colchester, Essex. CO2 8JY.
Skills required:
Excellent feature writing, subbing and proofing skills
Perfect English
Experience of commissioning features
Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure with a two-man team
Able to work autonomously
Have good commercial sense and be able to present Mind Body Spirit subjects in a mainstream way
Excellent research skills and an eye for a story
Good management skills and ability to communicate ideas
Ability to work closely with the ad team to enhance revenues
Ability and confidence to engage with senior figures in the MBS industry, as well as managers at Aceville
To represent the magazine in a professional way at all times
Experience working on women's consumer magazines at an editor or deputy editor level
The ideal candidate will demonstrate some knowledge about and interest in spiritual/esoteric matters
Job specification
Writing and commissioning features and picture-sourcing within budget
Sourcing and overseeing first-rate and commercial front covers
Editing freelance copy and the work produced by the deputy
Flat-planning
Managing the editorial budget
Interviewing key MBS figures and writing up features
Selecting good, commercial book extracts
Proofing and signing off
Writing commercial, eye-catching cover lines
Overseeing production of magazine (and sometimes covermounted supplements) from start to finish, providing design direction where needed, ensuring the look of the mag stays consistent and up-to-date
Supporting ads, subs and promotions departments with online and external activity to promote the magazine
Attending meetings in house and out of house
Post on Facebook and Twitter at least once a day, to include some image, news stories and quotes
To upload 2-3 new blogs per week onto the S&S website (and to sub the copy sent in, plus adding new users)
To maintain the quality, both in design and content, that Soul has built up over four years, keeping it a top contender in the MBS market place
