Description: Hart Energy has an opening for a Senior Editor in its Houston office. The successful candidate will be able to generate stories for Hart's upstream websites, supervise the production of weekly newsletters and lend a hand in posting content on the websites. Recent experience in generating oil- and gas-related content is preferred, but relevant experience in business reporting or trade publishing will be considered. Likewise, online content management experience is a plus, but not a necessity. It is, however, imperative that the successful candidate have a genuine interest in learning about the oil and gas industry. A strong reporting and writing foundation are a must, as are solid editing skills.
Duties: The Senior Editor will be able to quickly convert news releases into online copy, conduct telephone interviews with industry players, provide timely coverage of local oil and gas conferences and be part of a team that covers Hart Energy's worldwide conferences. The ideal candidate will work with an assignment editor but also be responsible for generating story ideas.
Secondly, the Senior Editor will oversee the production of weekly newsletters. Responsibilities include selecting appropriate content for newsletters, writing captions for images and working with the art department throughout the production process.
Lastly, the Senior Editor will be trained to post content on Hart websites on an as-needed basis. The successful candidate must be able to fill in as a backup to other Hart web editors.
Qualifications: Writing experience is necessary, as is an ability to meet tight deadlines. Applicants will need to provide copies of published stories. At least eight years of writing experience are preferred, as is familiarity with Associated Press style. A Bachelor degree or higher in journalism, English or a related field is required.
