Overview:

The Takeaway seeks interns to help out on our national morning news program hosted by John Hockenberry. The Takeaway is a unique partnership of global news leaders. It is a co-production of PRI (Public Radio International) and WNYC Radio in collaboration with the BBC World Service, The New York Times and WGBH Boston. There are several different internship positions available.

Responsibilities:

1) Morning Production. This position helps with all things big and small, essential to making the live show run smoothly. Hours are approximately 5:30am – 10:00am, and entail assisting the control room and news hub while on air. Responsibilities include:

Greet and prep in studio guests

Act as liaison between control room, news hub and host
Assist in writing news script and watching wires
Occasional research and pitching of story ideas
Additional tasks to support host and production staff as needed


2) Dayside Production. This position helps the producers and associate producers in producing segments for the next day’s show. The hours will fall between 5 am and 5pm. Specific hours will be determined by the manager. Responsibilities include:

Locating and pulling sound for air
Pitching guests and story ideas
Maintaining database of obituaries and rolodex


3) Futures Production. This position assists the futures team in the development and production of weekly feature segments. The hours will fall between 5 am and 5pm. Specific hours will be determined by the manager. Responsibilities include:

Locating and pulling sound for air
Pitching guests and story ideas
Maintaining future story/special event calendar
Sorting and classifying books, skimming books and pitching them as possible segments
Maintaining database of obituaries


4) Web. This position assists the Digital Editor and Web Producer with our site and podcast. The hours will fall between 5 am and 5pm. Specific hours will be determined by the manager. Responsibilities include:

Edit and upload web audio for morning segments
Edit hourly podcasts throughout morning
Listen through segments to pull quotes for site
Help add segment info where needed
Help with some control room duties

Qualifications:

Must have strong research skills
Must have previous experience with journalism
Must be professional and courteous as interns will interact with guests and potential guests
Must be willing to learn new skills and participate actively in the news production process
