How do we contribute?

To produce ideas and content to the very high standard required for The Sun newspaper and its digital platforms. This includes sourcing both written and video interviews, overseeing copy and ensuring headlines and presentation Online adheres to The Sun’s high standards.

SunSport Online is a living, breathing sports news service and needs to react accordingly when stories break. Reporting must be done swiftly and efficiently and all copy produced must conform to current legal codes of practice.

To present content from each day’s paper in a vibrant, exciting and digital friendly manner for the Online Sports section, reworking headlines and display ideas where necessary.
We work closely with the reporters, writers and freelance contributors to supply content that is additional to what appears in the paper.

What’s my personal contribution?

To assist the Online Sports Editor in producing ideas and content to the very high standard required for The Sun newspaper and its digital platforms.
To help supervise the Online Sports team and manage relationships with other departments and outside agencies, from video suppliers to commercial contracts.
To help supervise use and implementation of critical digital programs. These include good Search Engine Optimisation and utilising social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Google+ to take The Sun’s digital content to a global audience.
To produce outstanding, creative and engaging stories for The Sun.

What are my accountabilities?

To maintain a working diary of up coming Sports events and advise the Online Sports Editor and Digital Editor of crucial dates within the sporting calendar. To produce ideas relating to how these events may be covered digitally.

Supervise handling of breaking news and fresh content. Great content, presentation and headlines are what makes The Sun different from other publishers and all our reporting staff are master craftsmen and women of the English language.

To liaise with the Online Sports Editor and Digital Editor on the day to day presentation of content.

Consulting with reporters, writers and freelance contributors to resolve issues with copy and keeping editor informed on changes that arise as stories develop.

Recognising and acting upon any potential legal issues and acting in accordance with the PCC Code of Conduct. Keen attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking. Ensuring each story is balanced.

Must have and maintain a wide knowledge of sport and related business, current affairs and trends through reading various titles as well as utilising other media platforms on a daily basis.

Encourage collaboration and support others, actively engaging with people in other teams and departments.

Supervise the Online Sports desk in the Sports Editor’s absence.

Willingness to work flexible hours over a seven-day rota pattern.

Must Haves:

Experience working for a national newspaper, either in print or on digital platforms.

Good contacts book within the world of sport.

Thorough, working knowledge of all social media and associated platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, You Tube and Google+

Anything else?

Knowledge of Escenic, Photoshop or InDesign an advantage but not essential.

Experience producing or conducting high quality video interviews an advantage but not essential
