Help write the next chapter of one of the great investigative stories in American journalism – in the most colorful news town in The United States.
The Miami Herald’s investigative work has changed laws, led to criminal prosecutions, even overturned a city election. In five of the last seven years, Miami Herald projects have been Pulitzer Prize winners or finalists. In the last year, they won National Headliner, Heywood Broun, SDX, Green Eyeshade and were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.
We seek an investigative editor who has passion for and experience with watchdog reporting to work with top-flight investigative reporters on long-term projects, while consulting with enterprising beat writers who uncover corruption on their own beats on mid-range pieces.
Our ideal candidate plans carefully, edits deftly and isn’t afraid to get his or her hands dirty when necessary. He or she mixes old school rigor with knowledge of computer databases and new media tools. He or she should have a minimum of five years experience with major investigative work as a reporter and as a team leader or editor, and should provide examples of those projects.
This job requires a journalist who can work collaboratively across a broad newsroom, and deliver stories for print, web, NPR-style radio and video. You should be as adept at collaborating with a colleague as at persuading a source to talk.
