The Department:
The Farmers Weekly Group (FWG) is a multi award-winning, go-ahead, market-leading brand and operates as an integrated web and print team. Its leading title (Farmers Weekly) has a print circulation of over 65,000 copies a week and its website (Farmers Weekly Interactive) has over 250,000 unique users generating up to 4m page impressions a month.
The Deputy Group Production Editor reports to the Group Production Editor (GPE). He/she is charged with supporting the GPE to help ensure the smooth and effective production of content across the group’s portfolio of print titles and supplements, and its website Farmers Weekly Interactive. The group operates a web-first policy and maximises the value of its content across all its market touch-points. This is a role requiring online and print production skills.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
• Deputising for the GPE when necessary to ensure subs team is working efficiently and effectively on a day-to-day basis
• Supporting GPE with copyflow protocols and deadlines and helping ensure these are met and where there are problems liaising with GPE to find solutions
• Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal effectiveness and use this to engage with other teams and managers in the business – print and online
• Laying out print content and uploading web content on a daily basis
• Ensure copy in print and online is being properly proofed and checked
• Participate as required in daily and weekly content planning meetings
Key Skills Required:
• Substantial subbing and layout (InDesign) skills in print and online environments
• Basic understanding of key online content requirements – SEO, tagging, linking – and appreciation of the role/importance of HTML/CSS
• Understand the demands of print and web production in order to exploit synergies and manage conflicts
• Ability to plan and organise in order to prioritise work and manage time effectively
• High attention to detail
• Ability to multitask
• Numerate
Experience Required:
• Demonstrable sub-editing experience
• Excellent knowledge of Adobe InDesign and CMS systems
• Proven record of managing an ever-changing portfolio of print and online tasks
