Further information

The Positive, is a new weekly London concept newspaper (print and online) dedicated to unearthing and reporting on visionary, constructive, positive aspects of London/UK life, whilst maintaining a high level of journalistic standards. It offers a constructive, upbeat, intellectually provocative alternative to the gloomy, sensationalistic weekly tabloids that have become a staple in London life. We are currently seeking an experienced full-time deputy editor to join our team in West London.

As the righthand man or woman of the editor-in-chief, the deputy editor is essential to the day-to-day operations of the newspaper. This senior role is suited to someone with at least five years experience in newspaper or news magazine editing with a journalism (or relevant) degree, experience editing and assigning articles, and strong writing and communication skills.

The deputy editor should be an extremely organised multi-tasker with sharp knowledge of current events and politics, and strong listening and delegation skills. He/she should be a driven, independent but flexible editor who thinks on his/her feet while remaining calm and organised in a ‘crisis’. An address book full of professional freelance journalistic contacts is a plus.

Responsibilities include fielding articles from all sections of the paper and ensuring that deadlines and objective are met. The deputy editor will work with the editorial team to brainstorm relevant, constructive, upbeat and visionary stories for all sections of the newspaper with a specific emphasis on: news, business, politics, science, technology, and health. He/she will work closely with the editor-in-chief and news editor to assign, write and edit substantial topical articles with a positive twist. The deputy editor will also work with the art director to ensure smooth copy and picture flow (and to make sure that proper attributions are in place).

Start date: immediately, as soon as possible.

Please send CV, two published topical clips, and a short cover letter to Shana Ting Lipton, editor-in-chief, shana@thepositive.com.
