MINING JOURNAL: FEATURES EDITOR/MPE EDITOR

A permanent position is available, with immediate effect, on the six-person editorial team of the weekly Mining Journal. This subscription-only publication, first published in 1835, is a market leader in the international mining sector, and is one of five mining and engineering titles published in London by Aspermont Media Ltd.

The work involves writing and/or commissioning features for Mining Journal and for at least four special supplements throughout the year and also writing, commissioning and editing the quarterly 24-page publication Mining, People and the Environment.

You will be responsible for editing external contributions, ensuring that the copy is both high quality and adheres to Mining Journal's style, and for sourcing pictures/graphics.

The ability to manage a freelance budget is essential as is maintaining and building a good relationship with external contributors.

The features typically have a country or commodity focus and you will be tasked with creating a features schedule for the year.

An eye for detail is essential as is the ability to meet deadlines. As part of the editorial team, you will be expected to help deliver a product that is of a high standard in terms of technical accuracy, relevance and clarity.

The successful candidate will be expected to present themselves in a manner that reflects credit on the publication.

Applicants with reporting experience of the mining sector will have a distinct advantage. Please attach two examples of your work with your application.

Employment terms: Normal office hours 9am to 5.30pm, with one hour for lunch; 25-days paid annual holiday plus usual Bank Holidays. There is a probation period of three months, then an annual review.
Starting salary: £33,000
