To line manage Deputy Editor, and Editorial Assistant.
Purpose:
To deliver two magazines, each ten issues per year, to a supplied brief, that are distinctive, independent, powerful with a strong recognisable identity. Each aimed at a specific target audience with an interest in card making and general craft/knitting/crochet.
Responsible for magazine content from conception to signing off final pages, with input into the design, look and feel of the publications.
The position requires a high level of awareness of the need to promote editorial and commercial activity. Regular contact with the promotions department, and input into design, content and concept of cover-mounted gifts which are an integral element of these titles.
Regular contact with the advertising team and constant appraisal of the magazines to ensure they are delivering the best in class and offer value to readers and advertisers.
Providing input into promotion and marketing of the titles.
Responsibilities:
Handle the day-to-day running of the magazines and dealing with administration.
Ensure subject matter is presented in a concise, technically correct and clear manner being mindful of presentation, style and consistency.
Maximise value through content, design and innovation with particular emphasis on strengthening the links between the magazine's content and the items provided in both the LMC and LGC kits.
Consider and implement development ideas with Group Editor.
Manage and stay within outlined editorial budgets.
Arrange and oversee photoshoots.
Commission, manage and brief freelance designers to ensure projects are a high finished standard and are of a technically varied level and meet required deadlines.
Organise invoicing and payment to contributors on a monthly basis and maintain records.
Hold regular features meetings to generate new ideas and keep advertising departments informed of monthly editorial activity to maximise commercial opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and raise the profile of the magazine.
Maximise development of online/social media opportunities for both content and revenue.
Managing the Deputy Editor and ensuring copy flow and production runs according to schedule.
To give good consideration to selection of cover and packaging images and cover lines and brief line managers, allowing adequate time for consideration before press week.
Attending shows with overnight stays as required.
