Business Reporter
The Dallas Morning News seeks a business reporter to cover the North Texas energy industry, from oil and gas exploration to electric and gas utilities. The successful candidate should quickly gain a strong understanding of the diverse industry. Local companies on the beat include Exxon Mobil Corp., Energy Future Holdings, Energy Transfer Partners, Atmos Energy, Celanese Corp. and more. Issues include the debate about hydraulic fracturing, adoption of smart electric meters, the Texas electric grid under deregulation, and consumer impact of the price of gasoline and residential electric rates. Energy industry billionaires who call North Texas home include Ray Hunt, Trevor Rees-Jones, Kelcy Warren, Ken Hersh and T. Boone Pickens.
Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years experience writing business. Energy reporting experience a plus.
Skills:
Must have good communication skills and organizational skills; good interviewing skills; detail oriented; good computer skills
