We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working reporter to join our editorial team at TV Sports Markets.
We are the leading b2b information service for the global sports media rights industry, providing exclusive news and in-depth analysis of media rights deals being signed in sport around the world. We are renowned within the sports media industry for the accuracy and depth of the information we provide as well as for the expertise of the editorial team you will be joining.
It’s an exciting time to be joining us as we have enjoyed strong commercial growth in recent years. We are offering a salary of up to £25,000 per annum. The job is based in our Central London office. You will primarily be responsible for identifying and writing exclusive news stories for the newsletter and related online services. You will develop relationships with senior executives in the sports broadcasting industry and use those relationships to access valuable information. Most of our reporting is conducted by phone, but some travel within the UK and internationally will be required to attend industry events. You will be creatively interpreting data and information obtained during reporting to produce graphical and social media as well as written content and will enjoy helping build our social media presence and community.
We are looking for a trained journalist, ideally with some experience in b2b writing or in covering the sports or media industries, who can demonstrate an aptitude for three core skills: news sense (knowing what is a story and what isn’t); reporting (being able to acquire information); and writing (being able to tell the story, not just in words but also using tables, charts, infographics etc). If you have the skill to write a story around data that would be a real advantage.
You will need to be able to absorb a lot of information in a relatively short space of time to understand how the sector works and be able to adapt quickly to a very specific style of writing and presenting information. Working to deadlines, you will need excellent time management and organisational skills.
You will need to be confident in meeting and interviewing key players in the business of sport and building a network of close contacts. We are particularly interested in candidates with Spanish-language skills, while other languages would be an added benefit.
Desired skills and experience
- A journalistic qualification or experience of working in a news environment with demonstrable ability to write accurately and coherently under pressure – you will need an excellent command of written and spoken English
- Understanding of and experience in producing content for online audiences including text, graphics, photos, video, audio and more
- Understanding of and experience in building engaged online communities – Twitter and LinkedIn particularly
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- High level of numeracy
- A passion for sport
- A basic knowledge of the business underpinning major sports
- Preferably a Spanish speaker; other languages also a benefit
