Full Time

Harpers Wine & Spirit, the monthly leading UK-based drinks trade title, along with its quarterly stablemate The Drinks Wholesaler, is seeking a full time News & Web Editor.

The core role will involve managing and writing our daily digital news content and contributing to our news analysis pages, both in print and online, with further responsibilities contributing to features and other related initiatives across the titles.

The successful candidate will be experienced at delivering accurate and originally sourced news content, while developing and maintaining a wide range of contacts within the diverse drinks trade and its associated trade bodies, working with the Editor and Senior Reporter to ensure that our content is the ‘go to’ source of trade news and analysis.

The emphasis will be on issue-led and business-focused stories, while also contributing with more in-depth and longer pieces/features as required.

This role will suit an ambitious journalist with a strong grounding in news gathering and analysis, with an understanding of the requirements of digital journalism, and a proven track record of being self-motivated. The successful candidate will be able to deliver compelling copy under pressure and judge the importance and most salient angles of a given story.

Building awareness of and engagement with this content via social media will also be a key part of the role.

Knowledge of the drinks trade would be a plus, but not essential for the right candidate prepared to learn fast about this fascinating and multifaceted sector.

While office-based, the role will involve spending time at industry events and functions, plus occasional travel in the UK and overseas, requiring a flexibility beyond a 9-5 job, and the ability to deliver great copy remotely.

We are based in Crawley, near Gatwick Airport, and easily commutable from London, Brighton, Surrey, Sussex and Kent.
