What is

Help curious users find the answers they need.

Our ever-more complex world inspires readers to question what they see and hear more than ever. From news and current affairs to the arts, lifestyle, sport and health, social media fuels our curiosity and sparks conversations that could never have existed a decade ago.

But traditional media structures and closed-off educational institutions mean that readers can't reach the experts and specialists who could answer their questions. Knowledge is locked up within small circles of intellectuals and academics.

TheQuestion's goal is to connect curious users with the experts who can answer their questions. On our website, users post questions across a wide range of topics – from "what is neoliberalism?" to "how does gravity work?" to "how did The Beatles change the world?" We then use professional journalists to find the academics, analysts and other experts who can give the most inspiring, authoritative answers.

We are building a direct connection between readers and experts using the evangelical power of social media. TheQuestion spreads knowledge, stimulates curiosity and gives people with questions access to people who those who can answer.

TheQuestion needs imaginative, entrepreneurially-minded, self-starting contributors to ensure that we give the best possible answers to the widest range of specialist questions. You will self-commission under your own initiative, selecting questions from our Content Management System and then finding the best experts from your range of contacts to answer them. You will upload their answers directly to our CMS and you must commit to submitting at least ten answers a month.

Once your answers are approved by our Editors – which is how we ensure high quality content – they will go live and be approved for payment. Our rates are £30 per answer of minimum 200 words, dependent on approval.

This system enables TheQuestion to get the best material from a wide range of contributors and puts you in charge of your own workload. With this workflow can work as much as you like, and be paid by the answer.

You may be a recent graduate, a current student or a freelance writer who specialises in key areas of science, the arts or humanities. The more specific your expertise, the more you will be able to do for TheQuestion. We are looking for specialist correspondents in: medicine, finance, science, health, biotech, the arts, culture, humanities, philsophy, foreign affairs, society and demographics, statistics, technology, fashion, energy, information technology, law, politics, nutrition, biology, zoology, chemistry, literature and history.

Successful correspondents will be self-reliant individuals with a comprehensive contacts book, an instinct for what will interest our users, and the ability to convey complex ideas to the intelligent lay reader. You will have a significant social media profile and you will use it to ensure maximum engagement for your contributions to TheQuestion.

If you have the right mix of contacts, initiative and lateral thinking, please send a CV and covering letter plus five key questions that would interest our readers – plus the experts you would use to answer them, by completing the application form below.
