Do you have a passion for gardening?

Which? is the largest independent consumer organisation in the UK. At our core, we comprehensively review and recommend which products people should consider or avoid. We do the hard work, so you don’t have to.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented Researcher / Writer or Senior Researcher / Writer (dependent on your skills and experience) to create unbiased, research-based advice to help today's gardeners find the gardening machinery and tools, techniques and plants that make gardening a pleasure, not a chore.

What you’ll be doing

This office-based role will be responsible for designing product tests and gardening trials that help gardeners make wise choices. In the first instance the role will concentrate on comparative product tests of garden machinery, sundries and tools such as lawnmowers, grass seed and secateurs. In time it will extend to include trials of plant varieties and gardening techniques. You’ll even organise plant trials conducted by our own readers, to give us more insight into the issues that they encounter every day.

You’ll manage multiple projects end-to-end, working with external laboratories to commission high-quality, consumer-focused research. You’ll use your analytical skills and exceptional writing ability to turn the test lab’s results into engaging articles, product reviews, advice guides, news stories and even videos that will appear in the pages of Which? Gardening and on our website, which.co.uk too.

You'll need a talent for turning your findings into clear, accessible content. We want your writing to draw more people to Which? and show them how we can add value.

What we’re looking for

You'll be a keen practical gardener with a good knowledge of how to use garden machinery and the challenges of gardening in a domestic setting.

We’ll need you to have excellent writing skills and experience in designing and carrying out in-depth research that could be used to identify the strengths and weaknesses of products.

You’ll need strong analytical skills and a talent for collating and manipulating data in Microsoft Excel to draw out our well-respected Which? ratings and Best Buys from test data. This goes alongside strong project management skills, which mean you’re adept at juggling multiple projects to tight deadlines.

We’ll be really excited if you have experience of writing for a consumer audience and a strong interest in the products that people use in their gardens.

What you’ll get in return

Our rewards package is one of the best out there. You’ll get 28 days’ annual leave, an interest-free season ticket loan, life assurance, and a pension scheme that increases to 11% after you’ve been here for a year. You’ll also get the chance to develop your career, with a big focus on internal development. And you can work every day knowing that you’re playing your part in making consumers as powerful as the organisations they deal with.~
