The BMJ is looking for an outstanding Editor to fill a senior role as Editor for the British Veterinary Association’s world-class veterinary journals (Veterinary Record, In Practice, Veterinary Record Open, Veterinary Record Case Reports).

You will take responsibility for delivering the journals’ content on all platforms, on time and within budget. You will oversee the editorial content, and look and feel of the weekly print edition of the Veterinary Record and monthly In Practice to create world class publications as well as leading and managing  the journals’ editorial production team.

You will play a major role in forming and implementing the journals’ strategy. As a senior strategic editor, reporting to the Publisher, you will ensure that the content satisfies the developing needs of our readers in the UK and internationally in an increasingly digital world and in a highly competitive environment . You will oversee commissioning and selection of stimulating content for the Veterinary Record and In Practice.

You will ensure the timely delivery of high quality content for both online and weekly print editions. You will be responsible for ensuring a captivating  front cover every week for the Veterinary Record. You will stay up to date with, and react proactively to, data on print readership and digital usage. You will develop and manage strategic partnerships with third parties in print and multimedia journalism.

You will be:

Educated to degree level, plus a journalism qualification (eg, postgraduate diploma); a senior editor with extensive journalistic experience, including managing a team on a weekly magazine or daily newspaper; an excellent people manager and communicator; highly skilled in writing and editing, with specific expertise in creating compelling content for an international clinical audience; familiar with magazine design skills; highly competent in use of digital and social media; and aware of emerging technologies in digital and print journalism.

You will be a strong leader with a clear vision for developing the journals in a ‘digital first’ age. Critical to your success will be a strong focus on the needs of our readers and BVA members.
