AccountingWEB.com is the premier online community serving practicing tax and accounting professionals in the US. The site, predominantly contributor driven, posts practical and useful content for the profession, including articles, blogs, guides, e-books and regular community exchange that help answer the pressing questions of the day.

We are seeking an ambitious business or financial-focused journalist / editor to both contribute to and support AccountingWEB’s editorial flow and help our members be more effective in their work.

The role

The AccountingWEB Deputy Editor will work closely with the Managing Editor to ensure the site is supporting the needs of its members.

As well as possessing good journalistic skills, the Assistant / Deputy editor will get to know community members by participating in their debates and responding to their queries. This pastoral approach underpins the community spirit and content that set AccountingWEB apart.

The successful applicant will be an ambitious, self-directed writer / editor who has a demonstrable enthusiasm for business issues. Accountants demand accuracy above all else in coverage of technical topics such as tax law and financial reporting/audit regulations. The assistant/deputy editor needs to be methodical, intelligent and able to write about these topics in a clear and readable style.

The position involves a significant amount of production work on the site itself and its daily email bulletins; strong sub-editing and proofreading skills are essential. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic user of web tools and office technology; proficiency in Excel would be a strong bonus.

As part of the position’s community-facing role, the post will require regular attendance at exhibitions, press conferences and other events.

The position may also involve some work on commercial projects with advertising clients. The post could also suit someone with an accountancy or business technology background who is looking for an opportunity to break into online publishing.  Occasional travel to attend industry events may also be required.
