Sarcoma UK, Director of Communications
Sarcoma UK is a young, dynamic and creative cancer charity that has come a long way in a short time; our successful partnership with 10 Downing Street and support from two Prime Ministers during 2016 has raised our profile to a new level.
Communications is a central part of our mission to transform the landscape for everyone affected with sarcoma – a rare cancer of the bone and soft tissue.
This is because awareness is low: 10 people in the UK are diagnosed every day with sarcoma, and half will not survive, yet more than half of the general public have never heard of this type of cancer. Building awareness of sarcoma is essential to earlier diagnosis, and research has proved that earlier diagnosis saves lives.
Every year we invest at least half a million pounds into highest quality scientific research to find a cure for sarcoma. Our sarcoma specialist nurses are a lifeline for people affected by sarcoma, providing one-to-one expert support and information through our national Support Line.
