The Marine Professional, Editor
We are looking for a talented editor to create an interesting monthly, membership magazine and online presence that meets the needs of both, the technically-skilled readership and commercial advertisers.
Our client is the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), the international professional body and learned society for all marine professionals. This role may be suited to an experienced managing editor or deputy editor who is now ready to step up.
About the role
Your overall task would be to oversee print and online content for The Marine Professional magazine and website and also manage a small editorial team which is a mix of trusted freelance talent and a talented in-house journalist recently promoted to Industry Editor.
You will have control over all aspects of the magazine right from media planning and commissioning articles through to writing features, conducting interviews and managing budgets.
In addition to the magazine, which is printed once a month (with occasional supplements), you will also contribute to and oversee the weekly newsletter and breaking news bulletins.
There is scope to bring personal flair to our social media presence on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. The industry has frequent conferences at which you will represent the magazine and you may also be asked to host editor’s dinners to raise the profile of the publication.
- Knowledge of the marine sector (shipping, offshore, electronics and marine science)
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to commission copy and manage freelancers
- Basic InDesign editing abilities
- Experience of budget handling
- Willingness to travel (both domestically and internationally)
- Comfort with public speaking
