Job Purpose:

A key role within our News and Current Affairs team, both in the office and out on the road. You will film and edit news reports for the nightly London Live News programme and report live from location.

You will also get involved in all stages of the production process, from researching stories and arranging filming assignments and booking studio guests, to including outputting the programme from the gallery when required to do so.

About you:

  • An experienced journalist with a professional qualification
  • Who films news stories interviews and features
  • Who edits their own stories and other footage using professional editing systems such as Adobe Premiere 
  • Experienced in live reporting from location
  • Experienced in all aspects of live programme production: writing scripts, editing headlines, outputting from the gallery
  • A motivated individual who is brimming with ideas and suggestions for both stories and contributors
  • Ability to work off your own initiative alongside the ability to work well within a small team
  • You will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working with people
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines 

Key responsibilities:

Filming and editing:
Can produce work of a high standard to tight deadlines. Has an understanding of legal and broadcast compliance, including technical quality.

Live reporting: Can report on camera clearly and concisely, can arrange live filming and interviews on location to make sure stories are told in a visually-interesting way.

Programme production: Can edit pictures for headline sequences, write scripts, research stories, book guests and arrange filming.

Live production:  Can output a live news programme when required, and assist with live production, such as graphics operation.

Teamwork: Can work effectively in a team, can on occasion supervise and advise others.

Flexibility: Willing to work to a shift pattern, including some evening and weekend working.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of working in a TV newsroom or similar.
  • Filming on video handycams and or DSLR cameras.
  • Live reporting on location and in the studio.
  • Editing on professional systems such as Adobe Premier.
  • Live programme production, including gallery outputting.
  • Understanding of legal issues such as defamation, court and election reporting.
  • Understanding of the requirements of the Ofcom code in relation to news and current affairs programmes.
  • A keen interest in news and current affairs.
  • Understanding of London’s varied cultural scenes and the key issues affecting people living in the capital.
