Leasing Life & Motor Finance, Reporter
About the role:
Are you looking for your first or second step into journalism? Want to work for titles with decades of history and a great reputation, with great offices and staff?
Leasing Life and Motor Finance are looking for a reporter to gather news, write engaging features and interview senior industry figures for its well respected business-to-business website and monthly magazines, and to contribute occasional articles to its B2C site, Verdict.
Leasing Life provides market news and views for the business finance and leasing industry, which arranges finance for equipment and vehicles for commercial use.
Motor Finance covers the increasingly prominent consumer motor finance market, which is now the third biggest consumer lending market, after mortgages and credit cards.
Verdict is a new business to consumer site targeted at the C-suite decision maker with a need to know current events and business on the move.
The potential candidate should enjoy talking to people about their business, possess a confident phone manner and sharp networking skills.
Developing professional contacts will be important to developing trust and becoming an effective reporter for the markets, including a keen sense for ‘off-diary’ news gathering and an ability to deliver exclusive stories to the market.
The reporter should be able to deliver sharp news stories that convey key details, and longer features that deliver useful insight for readers, both to deadline.
This includes a common-sense ability to translate jargon phrases into simple, effective English and be able to sift through press releases to gather key facts.
An ability to multi-task is key as you will have to work with both editors for both titles at the same time, although you will have a lot of help and we work as a team.
A Bachelor’s degree, a willingness to learn, and a sharp awareness of the audience you are writing for is a must; NCTJ qualifications, experience and business acumen is an advantage. Progressive Media is an international office and Leasing Life is a European title so any language skills are an advantage.
