What Car?, Britain's biggest and best new car buying guide, and Autocar, the world's leading car enthusiast's title, are looking for an experienced sub-editor to join the dynamic team behind both titles.

Job Description

Haymarket Automotive comprises Autocar, What Car?, PistonHeads, Car and Accessory Trader and Classic & Sports Car – five brilliant brands that are world-famous for informing and entertaining car buyers, sellers and owners and which share the goal of leading in their chosen marketplaces.

Our reputation is built on quality journalism, slick marketing, product innovation and dogged and skilled salescraft, all in support of digital and print products that lead the market. No other automotive brand interacts with consumers and the car industry so comprehensively or is as well respected by its audience.

Whatever we do, we aim to be the best – and that starts with our teams and the way we place them at the heart of everything we do.

What Car?, Britain's biggest and best new car buying guide, and Autocar, the world's leading car enthusiast's title, are looking for an experienced sub-editor to join the dynamic team behind both titles.

Working directly with the production team, the sub-editor will be responsible for subbing magazine pages and working across our digital channels.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all copy is accurate, entertaining and produced to the highest standards and deadlines. You'll also assist with some production tasks such as flatplanning issues, liaising with freelance sub-editors and producing perfect press-ready PDFs.

The role requires a highly organised person who isn't afraid to use their own initiative, with the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

As such, the right candidate needs to have perfect spelling and grammar, an excellent eye for detail and the ability to cross-check information from a variety of sources.

Desired skills and experience:

  • A proven track record (minimum two years' experience) as a sub-editor on a trade or consumer title.
  • Superb editing and writing skills across print and online.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and print workflow systems such as GoPublish, as well as experience of flatplanning and making press-ready proofs and PDFs.
  • An interest in cars and the automotive sector would be a distinct advantage, as would SEO, keyword and basic analytics skills.

Haymarket is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all areas of the community.
