Civil Service World, Reporter
Civil Service World, part of the Dods group of public sector and political titles, is looking for a journalist to cover the ins and outs of government, writing daily online news and in-depth features for our monthly print publication.
CSW exists to help civil service leaders and managers understand their working environments and achieve more in their jobs. The successful candidate will be interested in government and public policy, ideally with some experience writing for a specialist audience.
The role provides a great opportunity for a proactive reporter who is looking to build their own beat, break exclusive stories, and provide independent, high-quality journalism to public sector leaders at a time of immense challenges.
You will ideally have some experience of pitching original story ideas and working to daily deadlines. As well as producing authoritative news stories each day, the role will also involve writing in-depth interviews and features with senior civil service leaders – from the permanent secretary of DfT to the head of the Legal Aid Agency – and going beyond the headlines to explore the issues that really matter to top officials.
You’ll also be working on our growing range of special projects including webinars and digital supplements, so you’ll need to think creatively about the best way to tell stories and explore complex topics. Experience of producing video journalism and podcasts would be a benefit – but not essential.
The role includes:
- Daily news reporting
- Analysis and interviews
- Commissioning opinion pieces
- Building relationships in Whitehall
- Promoting content on social media and using web analytics to ensure editorial coverage is targeted and effective
- Researching and helping to produce special projects as needed
You will also contribute to our sister titles PoliticsHome.com and PublicTechnology.net where appropriate.
To apply, please send a CV and covering letter outlining your suitability for the post to Suzannah Brecknell, Editor, Civil Service World, by completing the application form below.
Closing date: 16 July 2018.
